Corona virus or COVID-19 is a new virus that was first discovered in the city of Wuhan, China, at the end of December 2019. This virus spreads so quickly and until now it has spread almost all over the world, including Indonesia. The World Health Organization (WHO) has also declared the Corona virus a pandemic or a global disease outbreak.
As a global pandemic, corona infects almost all countries in the world. In Indonesia alone, at the end of March 2020, the number of COVID-19 patients has exceeded 1,000 patients and the city of Jakarta is currently the most spreading of the corona virus. From the distribution map, at the end of March 2020, it was known that the highest number of positive cases of COVID-19 were in the Senayan Village (South Jakarta). Apart from Senayan, the spread of the corona virus in the city of Jakarta was also recorded in other areas, such as Pegadungan (West Jakarta), Kelapa Gading Timur (North Jakarta), Kalideres (West Jakarta), Tomang (West Jakarta), Kebon Jeruk (West Jakarta), Duren Sawit (East Jakarta), West Cilandak (South Jakarta), Pluit (North Jakarta), and Srengseng (West Jakarta). Because the spread of the virus occurs so quickly, the number of positive cases of COVID-19 and the distribution map can increase or change every day.
Even though the corona virus has a huge impact, you don't need to panic. There are some simple things you can do to prevent infection or exposure to this virus.
- Do self-isolation
If Corona symptoms start to appear in our bodies, immediately isolate them so that we don't have the potential to spread the virus to healthy people. Stay at home and limit activities that require you to go outside, except when you need medical care. Don't forget to always maintain a distance of at least 1 to 2 meters from other healthy family members and limit receiving guests at home to prevent the spread of the virus from spreading as much as possible.
- Use a mask
Masks are effective enough to help prevent the spread of the Corona virus. Therefore, always use a mask when you have to interact with other people or if you have to go to a public place when you start feeling Corona symptoms. The Corona virus is known to be transmitted through small particles from the patient's mouth that contain disease germs when the person coughs, sneezes or talks. Using a mask can reduce the risk of these small particles hitting and infecting other people.
- Apply good and correct coughing and sneezing ethics
When you have to sneeze or cough, immediately cover your mouth and nose with a tissue and then throw the tissue in the trash. If it's not possible to get a tissue, cover your mouth and nose using your inside sleeve with your arm bent inward. This good and correct cough and sneeze etiquette can help reduce our risk of spreading the Corona virus through our hands when touching objects around us.
- Immediately consult a doctor
If the symptoms of the Corona virus do not improve, especially if these symptoms appear about 2 weeks after we return from an area that has a Corona case or interact with a positive Corona patient, immediately go to the nearest hospital for a check-up. This can help us know for sure whether we are really infected with the Corona virus and so we can immediately take appropriate action so that this virus does not spread further.
Those are some ways we can do if we feel we have symptoms of being infected with the Corona virus. Given how quickly this virus spreads, quick response measures as mentioned above can help prevent cases of Corona virus transmission from becoming more widespread and the medical staff we currently have are not overwhelmed with the increasing number of new cases of Corona patients in Indonesia.
