Heart Attack and How is First Aid Done?

A heart attack (Moicardial Infarction) is an emergency condition where blood flow to the heart stops suddenly, of course this condition causes damage to the heart muscle and causes death of the heart muscle. The cause of a heart attack occurs due to a blockage in the coronary blood vessels. It is important to know that the coronary blood vessels are the blood vessels that provide blood flow to the heart. If there is a blockage in the coronary arteries, of course blood flow to the heart will be reduced or disrupted.

  • Smoking habit
  • High blood pressure (hypertension)
  • Diabetes
  • Obesity
  • Lack of physical activity
  • Family history

Heart Attack Symptoms

The symptoms most often felt when someone has a heart attack are:

  • There is discomfort or pain in the left side of the chest, followed by spreading to the neck, jaw or left hand
  • Chest pain that penetrates to the back accompanied by shortness of breath
  • Cold sweat
  • Nauseous vomit
  • loss of consciousness or better known as cardiac arrest

First aid

If someone experiences symptoms like the ones above, what must be done is:

  • Remain calm, then seek the nearest medical help such as calling emergency services or an ambulance
  • If there is no ambulance service available, immediately take the patient to the nearest health facility or hospital
  • When carrying the patient, try to keep the patient in a half-sitting position, if the patient is positioned in a lying/sleeping position, it will increase the feeling of tightness
