These are the reasons why you should check your eyes regularly

There is a saying that the eyes are windows to the world. This is true because seeing is one of the most important human senses. Vision is a process of collecting, focusing, and transforming light into objects of vision.

Disturbances that occur in our sense of sight are not uncommon. But most people like to forget to check their eyes regularly. Yet as you get older, the eyes become more susceptible to damage and various diseases. Not only that, if someone has diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, or neurological (brain or nerve) problems, then they should have their eyes checked more often by a doctor or hospital.

Routine eye examinations are actually quite important to maintain eye health. So that if it turns out that you have symptoms of eye disease that are quite severe, the doctor can take preventive and treatment measures before it gets worse. Please note that eye health may not decrease drastically and you may not feel the symptoms.

Of course, you have to choose the right hospital to have your eyes checked. The eye exam is painless. The doctor will carry out an eye examination which includes examining external eye conditions such as the eyelids, parts of the eye such as the conjunctiva, sclera, cornea, iris and retina to find out signs of a disease. A complete eye exam includes:

  • Vision check (without or with corrective lenses)
  • Pupillary reflex examination
  • Examination of the eye muscles
  • Field check
  • Examination with a slit lamp
  • Eye pressure check
  • Examination of the back of the eye

For those of you who regularly use contact lenses, you must be diligent in cleaning your contact lenses properly and also the usage period must be according to what is recommended by the manufacturer. If this is not done, there is potential for the front surface of your eye (cornea) to be damaged and infected. People who regularly wear contact lenses should have their eye health checked regularly
