The definition of a wound medically is the loss or damage to some tissue or body. Wounds make the tissue is not intact anymore. The wound healing process itself varies, depending on the type of wound, the cause of the wound, its depth, the treatment process, whether there is an infection or not, and several other important factors. Before treating scars and keloids, you should first know the types of scars so you can find the right type of treatment.
Types of Wounds on the Skin
Scars have several types with different appearances, ranging from scars that show discoloration of the skin, for example the skin color becomes red, brown or black. The discoloration occurs due to inflammation that occurs in the wound area.
Apart from changes in skin color, there are also scars that show changes in skin texture, such as the appearance of wrinkles, even lumps on the surface of the skin. Lumps on the skin are commonly found in hypertrophic scars and keloids.
In hypertrophic scars , scars are not only in the form of color stains, but also changes in skin texture. Meanwhile, in keloids, the skin texture changes to form excessive bulges that exceed the boundaries of the wound.
The most complained about scars are blemishes and keloid scars. Annoying scars, especially in cosmetic areas, such as the face, neck, and shoulder areas, can be unappealing and make you feel less confident. Apart from cosmetic reasons, scars are also an obstacle in several fields of work and professions that demand no scars.
How To Get Rid Of Scars
To get rid of scars, you should get treatment from a specialist for optimal results. The specialist will determine the type of wound you have, then the doctor will provide recommendations in the form of the type of treatment/aesthetic action needed for your scar, both surgical and non-surgical.
The following are several types of treatments recommended by the EMC Plastic Surgery & Aesthetic Center team of doctors to effectively disguise or remove scars:
- Scar stains are limited to discoloration of the skin
- Cream topical . Treatments containing skin lightening agents are effective for removing black spots, for example the hydroquinone content combined with topical steroids , glycolic acid, ascorbic acid, retinoids and arbutin.
- Peeling action with glycolic acid . This may take more than one application, but the stain will fade gradually.
- Fractional Lasers . Shortly before the procedure is performed, the patient will be given a special cream to reduce pain so that when the procedure is carried out, the patient remains comfortable. This action does not last long and the results can be felt more quickly because the laser technology can reach the deeper layers of the skin.
- Hypertrophic Scar
- Non-surgical action. This action can be done with corticosteroid injections which can help shrink hypertrophic scars.
- Fractional Lasers . This action is done to even out the texture of the skin is uneven.
- Additional topical cream . The topical cream that is given has a silicone content to suppress scar formation.
- Keloids
- Non-surgical action. This action is done to treat hypertrophic scars.
- Surgical procedure by excision. This action is performed to remove existing keloids, treat wounds, and provide post-operative care to prevent keloids from recurring.
- Combination action . Sometimes, how to get rid of keloids requires a combination of surgical and non-surgical procedures for optimal results.
- Topical anti-keloid cream. This treatment is carried out by administering a cream containing arbutin in an alkaline PH or silicone for the treatment of post-keloid excision wounds.
