Women Need to Understand Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a disease of the female reproductive system, which can cause tissue from the inner lining of the uterine wall to grow outside the uterine cavity.

So, if a woman has endometriosis, the tissue also undergoes a process of thickening and shedding similar to the menstrual cycle. However, the blood eventually settles and cannot come out because it is located outside the uterus so it can irritate the surrounding tissue. This condition can cause complaints of pain which of course is very uncomfortable, and it turns out that it can also cause infertility .

If endometriosis causes abnormalities in the ovaries, it is called an endometrioma. The surrounding tissues can become irritated, eventually causing the pelvic tissues and organs to stick together.

Now find out, risk factors for endometriosis, so we can be vigilant;

Several factors increase a person's risk of endometriosis, namely:

  • The risk increases if a family member has endometriosis
  • Never gave birth
  • Medical conditions that prevent menstrual blood from leaving the body
  • Have a disorder of the immune system.
  • Abnormalities in the uterus.
  • Experiencing the first menstruation before the age of 12 years.
  • The vagina, cervix, or uterus have an abnormal shape that can prevent menstruation.

These are the symptoms of Endometriosis to watch out for:

  • Pelvic pain
  • Heavy menstruation
  • Bleeding between menstruation
  • Pain during sex
  • Pain during urination or bowel movements during menstruation
  • Infertility
  • Other symptoms like Diarrhoea, Bloating, Constipation, Nausea during menstruation

The symptoms that are felt are not related to the degree of severity of Endometriosis, for example, you can have mild Endometriosis with severe symptoms or vice versa.
