Kawasaki syndrome is a rare and potentially life-threatening type of vasculitis that affects children between the ages of six months and five years. The disease often causes inflammation in one or more parts of the body. It is caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors, but its exact cause remains unknown.
SYMPTOMS OF KAWASAKI DISEASE
- Fever for more than 5 days that does not go away despite treatment
- Red eye
- Dry lips
- Swollen and red tongue (strawberry tongue)
- Rashes on the skin of the back, chest, stomach, hands and feet
- Swollen glands in the neck (so often mistaken for mumps)
- Swelling, redness of the palms and soles
- The skin on the tips of the fingers and toes peels after a few days
