EMC Healthcare completes its services by installing the first Biograph Vision Quadra PET/CT scanner in Asia, at Grha Kedoya Hospital, one of the hospitals under EMC Healthcare's network. This marks a major advancement in cancer therapy in Indonesia.
Biograph Vision Quadra enhances patient care with advanced molecular imaging for earlier detection of disease, higher diagnostic accuracy, faster scan times, and the potential to personalize therapy plans.
Advanced imaging technologies will be particularly beneficial for cancer patients, providing high-resolution imaging at low doses, as well as theranostic capabilities for targeted therapy.
The World Health Organization (WHO), through the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), has released its latest estimate of the global cancer burden. Data collected from 185 countries reveals that 10 types of cancer continue to account for two-thirds of new cancer cases and are the leading cause of death worldwide.
According to the report, there are 20 million new cases of cancer worldwide, with 9.7 million deaths. Lung cancer has the highest incidence rate (12.4%), followed by breast cancer (11.6%), colorectal cancer (9.6%), prostate cancer (7.3%), and stomach cancer (4.9%) 1 .
These alarming global cancer statistics highlight the urgent need for advanced diagnostic and therapeutic technologies to improve patient outcomes. In line with this, EMC Healthcare has taken a significant step in improving cancer care in Indonesia by equipping its facilities with the first Biograph Vision Quadra in Asia.
Siemens Healthineers’ advanced whole-body PET/CT scanner will help transform patient care for the better, delivering advanced imaging for earlier diagnosis and more accurate treatment planning, leading to better outcomes for cancer patients. This investment is a significant advancement in healthcare in Indonesia, and is part of EMC Healthcare’s commitment to providing the best diagnostic and therapeutic care.
"This achievement is a testament to EMC Healthcare's mission to lead healthcare innovation in Indonesia. We are proud to bring an even more innovative system to our patients, allowing them to benefit from the most advanced diagnostic equipment available today. This marks a new era of precision medicine in Indonesia, especially for oncology patients who will receive better and more personalized care," said Jusup Halimi, President Director of EMC Healthcare.
PET/CT plays a vital role in the management of oncology patients: PET/CT can detect small lesions such as metastases or secondary tumors. Detecting these tumors is crucial because it can determine how the patient will be managed afterwards. Biograph Vision Quadra and its advanced molecular imaging capabilities will significantly improve the ability to detect active cancer sites, even very small lesions. This technology is able to provide an accurate calculation of the amount of radiopharmaceutical therapy that can be delivered to the cancer site.
The device also produces a 3D whole-body map of quantitative blood flow rates to each organ and tissue. This 3D information will improve diagnostic accuracy, enabling early detection and staging of diseases such as cancer, diagnosing infections and other inflammatory diseases, neurological disorders, and cardiovascular conditions, and ultimately optimizing patient outcomes.
The system’s 106 cm axial field of view provides increased resolution and sensitivity, allowing physicians to capture detailed information and dynamically image patients from head to thigh in a single scan. With the scanner’s extended axial FoV , physicians can examine the patient’s anatomy as the radiopharmaceutical is absorbed over time. The combination of True Time-of-Flight capabilities and extended axial FoV allows for greater anatomical coverage in a single bedside position, compared to standard PET/CT scanners. The system enables faster scanning at lower patient radiation doses (reducing patient radiation exposure).
In addition, shorter scan times will make patients more comfortable, especially for those who are critically ill or who are undergoing multiple diagnostic procedures. Based on imaging data, the system allows the development of precise and personalized treatment plans according to the patient's needs, for advanced therapies such as radioligand or theranostic therapy. This is especially beneficial for cancer patients, where a timely and targeted combination of treatments can significantly improve outcomes.
“We are proud to collaborate with EMC Healthcare in presenting the first Biograph Vision Quadra in Asia. This system is a new generation of PET/CT imaging, offering excellent speed, accuracy, and added clinical insight. Patients will receive more precise diagnoses, faster scans, and personalized treatment strategies, which are in line with the focus on developing precision medicine,” said Alfred Fahringer, Country Head of Siemens Healthineers Indonesia.
The installation is expected to transform the clinical landscape of Indonesian healthcare by enabling more accurate diagnostics and more effective treatments. Both Siemens Healthineers and EMC Healthcare share a vision to expand access to innovative medical technologies, to ensure better outcomes for patients in Indonesia.
