(24/02/2022) The latest technology trend has changed our lifestyle, one good example is in the industry of healthcare and services sector. Therefore, EMC Healthcare has shown its commitment to starting the initiatives of digital transformation toward a smart hospital.
According to IT Director EMC Healthcare Wildan A. Djohany, digital transformation is a process of adapting existing business practices to digital methods to increase efficiency and adapt to business needs or requirements.
During COVID-19, digital adoption has become faster and more efficient expand. All sectors, both private and government, are competing to work on this initiative. And this initiative has also been followed by EMC Healthcare as a commitment to provide better service to patients.
Whereas a smart hospital is a hospital concept that focuses on optimizing patient services by utilizing internet-based Information and Technology (IT) systems and supporting medical and non-medical equipment connections," said Mr. Wildan during the Inspirato Sharing Session via Liputan6.com, on Thursday (24/2 /2022).
What a Smart Hospital Looks Like?
Wildan also explained the illustration of a smart hospital. Patients who are in the inpatient room of a smart hospital can adjust the room temperature, and lighting, select television channels and get the billing information for the hospital in real-time.
All of these arrangements can be made via a computer tablet provided by the hospital without having to get out of bed or ask someone else to do it.
In addition, patient vital signs such as temperature and blood pressure can be sent directly to the hospital information system automatically.
Developing
The development of EMC Healthcare services towards smart hospitals is based on the aspiration that hospitals under EMC Healthcare can become the main hospital of choice for the community.
"For that, we have to develop ourselves to the next level. From the IT perspective, we are doing the digitalization from all aspects with aim of improving patient safety, increasing hospital operational efficiency, improving patient experience, and increasing company finances."
For this digitalization initiative, EMC Healthcare invested in platforms and data that can be integrated and interact with other systems and must support future business development. Also, EMC Healthcare focuses on patients.
“This means that the platform or system we use must be 'patient-oriented '. If we talk about IT systems in hospitals, we know what is called a hospital management information system as the core hospital application."
"We choose the best and most efficient system in overall, not on the number of modules or features it has. Most of the hospital information systems focus on patient administration and finances but less on clinical or operation matters.”
In fact, when talking about hospitals, clinical matters need to be the main concern as well, said Pak Wildan.
